At the June 19 Sustainability Curriculum convening, hosted by the Center for Green Schools at USGBC, attendees envisioned an ideal future state for PK12 students in the U.S., and identified the primary categories within which action should occur to reach this future state. Read more about the convening here.
This webpage is a forum for further developing the vision statement that convening attendees proposed, through feedback received via the comments tool below. Please read and consider the draft vision statement and categories for action and provide your input.
Draft vision statement: All students graduate equipped in the “4 Es”: Environment, Economy, Equity and Ethics by __(date)__
In order to reach this future state, action needs to take place in these general categories:
- Economic drivers
- Integrated content/curriculum
- Pre-service teacher education
- Professional development
- Public awareness
- Student assessment
- Teacher evaluation
What would you add, delete or change? When should we arrive at this future state? What should be considered as supporting language? Are categories for action missing?
Your input will be collected and synthesized by the authors of a forthcoming sustainability education national action plan, published Fall 2013. Public comment period for collecting feedback on the vision statement and categories for action will close on Monday, July 15 at 9:00 am EDT. Please use the comment box below, or if you would rather submit your comment privately, use this online form.
Please encourage your colleagues, peers and network to provide feedback by directing them to www.centerforgreenschools.org/nationalactionplan. Over the coming 6 weeks, we will open two subsequent public comment periods, to collect your feedback on increasingly crystallized elements of the sustainability education national action plan, so please check back!
