In a reception with more than 20 of their national partners, including the U.S. Green Building Council, the 3.2 million member National Education Association hosted their fifth annual Earth Day celebration. To mark the occasion - and to the delight of the USGBC staff - NEA, the nation's largest teacher's union, celebrated the LEED Gold certification of its Washington, D.C.-based headquarters by serving two delicious cakes prominently displaying a LEED Gold seal in the icing. Standing near an empty tray of cake, Xavier, age 12, was enjoying a bite after filming the event for his web site. Smiling, he commented, "it was really good." His mother, an NEA purchasing agent, agreed.
NEA’s headquarters facility participated in LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintainence and received it's certification last year.
