Autumn is a time of harvest, feasting and foraging for Halloween treats. Help your students develop healthy relationships to food by learning about the systems that support nutrition at an individual, local and global level.
Learning Lab has more than 80 lessons across grades K–12, and multiple subjects in English and Spanish, to support teaching about food. Check out this month's selection and envision how to incorporate them into your classroom plans this fall:
- Grades K–5: 9-Minute Nutrition Ninja, created by Beyond Green Sustainable Food Partners. These lessons offer opportunities to taste and examine food as a part of encouraging students to think about their food, their bodies and their community.
- Grades 7–8: Personal Food Eco-Audit, created by EcoRise and RIS. In this lesson, students explore the concept of a foodprint, or an assessment of how choosing to eat the foods we eat impacts the environment. Access the Spanish version.
- Grades 9–12: Fishing for a Future, created by The Nature Conservancy. This module explores sustainable fishing through a specific case study in Peru, which is home to one of the world’s largest fisheries.
