The Center for Green Schools at USGBC now offers a how-to guide for organizing in-person workshops at your school. Use this guide to empower school stakeholders to transform the learning environment. The guide, Green Classroom Professional Group Trainings, provides valuable tools and tips to plan and conduct training sessions that prepare individuals to pursue the Green Classroom Professional Certificate.
The Green Classroom Professional Certificate program provides preK–12 educators and school staff with the knowledge to identify what supports or impedes healthy, resource-efficient and environmentally sustainable learning spaces. The certificate is ideal for teachers, administrators and operations staff (facilities, food service, custodial, wellness), as well as school building designers, board members and parents.
"We’ve seen, over the years, that in-person workshops help attendees learn collaboratively by interacting with their colleagues and their surroundings, resulting in deep knowledge gain and subsequent action," says Anisa Heming, director of the Center for Green Schools.
Informed by USGBC’s in-person education know-how and input from past Green Classroom Professional workshops, this guide outlines ways to conduct effective sessions and includes examples for planning, session schedules, facilitation, selecting guest speakers and leveraging local resources for maximum benefit for schools, students and staff.
