Clean economy jobs are on the rise. Today’s students have the opportunity to pursue jobs that will advance sustainability, equity, technology and resilience. Today’s teachers are eager to engage students in experiences that will equip them for the first steps of their career journeys. If you’re a high school instructor of architecture, engineering, energy, construction, building trades, environmental science or other STEM fields, you’re likely already including information about green jobs in your coursework.
USGBC and its partners are offering a new professional development experience that equips these teachers to designate themselves as leaders in green building knowledge.
When: January through March 2022 via eight online sessions
Throughout the first half of 2022, high school teachers are invited to participate in a LEED Green Associate credential exam prep course that will also register them to take the exam and provide green building materials that they can use in their classes. The “Exam Prep-Take-Teach” program includes learning, peer exchange and preparation for the leading green building industry credential, the LEED Green Associate. What’s more, the cost of the program is less than half of its market rate.
The LEED Green Associate credential indicates general knowledge of green building practices and how to support LEED projects. LEED Green Associates are specialists in today’s sustainable building standards and principles, including LEED, decarbonization, life cycle assessment and integrative design. The exam is ideal for those new to green building.
With the solid foundation of green building knowledge that the LEED Green Associate provides, teachers will be adept at weaving clean economy concepts into their instruction. Teachers are encouraged to use Perkins V funding to take this professional development course, and once completed, showcase their credentials and begin engaging students with green building content.
