USGBC is pleased to announce that, for the first time, students will be able to sit for the LEED Green Associate exam for a reduced fee of $100. The regular exam price is $200 for USGBC members and $250 for nonmembers. (Only one discount may be applied per exam.)
Recognizing the struggles many students face with debt, the unpredictable job market and cost of living once they graduate, USGBC is committed to supporting emerging professionals and current students in pursuit of careers related to sustainability.
Students graduating with degrees in architecture, construction management, design, engineering, environmental sciences, natural resources management and other related disciplines may find the Green Associate credential helpful as they venture into the working world.
According to the 2015 Green Building Economic Impact Study, released by USGBC and prepared by Booz Allen, the green building sector is outpacing overall construction growth in the United States and will account for more than 3.3 million U.S. jobs by 2018. For students completing undergraduate or graduate degrees, the potential for job security, advancement and professional fulfillment is significant as the industry continues to grow.
Many higher education institutions are engaging students in coursework that is directly related to LEED and preparing for the LEED credentials. An example is LEED Lab, a multidisciplinary immersion course that uses the built environment to educate and prepare students to become green building leaders and sustainability-focused citizens. LEED Lab allows for additional individual and institutional cost savings.
As the call for STEM-centric professionals with proven experience and expertise grows ever louder, USGBC is committed to helping students—no matter their background or where they go to school. Expanding the reach of the green building movement to include young professionals and students is essential as the industry grows. USGBC looks forward to welcoming a new class of LEED Green Associates into the fold.
